Our Shakespeare Program aims to teach all aspects of performing arts – behind the scenes and center stage. Students will explore all aspects of theatrical production including stage terminology, storytelling, scenery, props, costuming, choreography and acting. This program encourages creativity, originality and freedom through performance. Students will feel a great sense of accomplishment having participated in every aspect of their year-end theatrical production.

• The students wear period costumes. Costume fittings are very exciting for the children. There is a complete dress rehearsal the afternoon before the play.
• Original Shakespeare comedy scripts are edited to 5-6 pages leaving material that is suitable for young children. The children begin working on memorizing their lines during the first month of school, so by the end of April, they are very familiar with their characters and lines.
• Grades K-6 usually have 1-10 lines. Preschoolers have non-speaking performing parts or participate as sign carriers. The sign carriers wear costumes and cone hats and carry signs announcing each Act or Scene.

Please be sure to attend our annual Shakespeare play. The students wear period costumes and work on memorizing their lines all year. Students help with creating backdrops and props.
